Boston is a sprawling city, with activities to do and things to see for people of ages and interests. No matter what season it is, the city looks and feels wonderful, but the springtime is especially beautiful. Below, we’ll go through some of the top things to do in Boston this spring.

Visit the Boston Common and Public Garden

The 50-acre Boston common is one of the most popular areas of the city, with lots of space to chill out in the spring sun or play sports like tennis or badminton. You can check out the beautiful Emerald Necklace, a series of parks that was designed by the architect Frederick Law Olmstead, or take a stroll through the Public Garden and admire nature at its most tranquil.

Stroll the Greenway

Another perfect way to spend your day in the spring sun is by taking a wander through the Greenway. This is a mile of beautiful parks that presents some of Boston’s natural beauty. You can grab a snack at any of the many food stalls and trucks along the way, or time it right to attend any of the many festivals and parades that take place along the Greenway throughout the season.

Visit the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum

Even in the springtime the weather can take a turn for the worst, and so one of the top things to do in Boston if the rain decides to pour is to check out the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum. This Venetian-style building was once the home of Isabella, and if you share her name (or if it’s your birthday) you can get in for free! You will enjoy exploring the rooms of the museum, marveling at some of the incredible artwork on display.

Take a walk along the Freedom Trail

Once the weather picks up again, you can take a walk along the Freedom Trail. This historic walking tour takes you through 16 sites that are important to American history, from the King’s Chapel through the Benjamin Franklin Statue. The self-guided tour is 2.5 miles long and is a great way to see more of the city in a new light.

Check out the animals at the New England Aquarium

If you are looking for things to do in Boston for the kids, a trip to the New England Aquarium is a sure-fire way to provide them with a fun filled day. It’s the largest aquarium in New England, and one of the main attractions is the selection of penguins to watch. However, there are also sharks, turtles and seals to check out, among plenty of other marine life!

See the city of Boston from the water

Another great way to see the city of Boston in a unique way is to head out on the water. There are cruises that take off from all over the city, and some of them offer up an entertaining yet informative approach to teaching visitors all about the history of Boston. However, there are also cruises that offer food and drink, to really provide you with an afternoon – or even an evening – to remember.

Explore the Museum of Fine Arts

Another of the best things to do in Boston involves another top museum visit. The Museum of Fine Arts is home to more than half a million pieces of art and has been showing off some of the true wonders of the world for the last 150 years. You will be able to explore their Egyptian collection, along with the Japanese collection too. However, if impressionism is more your style you can see one of the best collections of Claude Monet’s work outside of Paris.

Get a wonderful tour of Fenway Park

If you are a sports fan, then a tour of the home of the famous Boston Red Sox is an absolute must this spring. Fenway Park is the oldest stadium in the history of Major League Baseball, so it really is one of the top places to visit even if you aren’t a fan of the sport. If you don’t fancy a tour, you could always try and catch a game instead!

Go on a tour of one of the many breweries

Finally, this is an option for the adults! If you are a fan of beer (who isn’t?) then you must check out any of the top brewery tours in Boston. From pilsners to stouts, there is something for every beer lover. You can learn about the history of beer in the city, enjoy some tasting sessions and even attend a dinner or lunch depending on one which tour you choose.
