SAFETY

We know that our number one goal is shared by parents, teachers and administrators alike: Provide the safest transportation possible for children who ride our buses. We accomplish this by driving the safest buses, hiring the safest drivers and providing them with the best equipment and training.

Drivers

Screening. All candidates must pass a driving record check, criminal background check, reference check, drug and alcohol screening, and a structured interview before even being considered for training.
Safety Education. All drivers, even if fully licensed at the time of hire, must go through a one-week orientation that includes classroom and on-road training. Key areas include a review of the specific bus they will drive, instruction on student management to help avoid distractions to the driver, safe bus loading/unloading, and blind spot awareness.
Ongoing Training. In addition to state licensing requirements, our on-staff Certified School Bus Instructors hold regular training sessions with our drivers. Safety areas such as backing up, proper use of mirrors, blind spots and safe turning are taught. We also provide certified CPR and first aid training classes.

School Vehicles

Local Motion is continually updating our fleet of school buses. We drive the safest possible vehicles to provide the transportation required by our customers. Our fleet department regularly inspects all buses and vans to ensure safe operation. In response to strong demand by parents and schools, we have seatbelts installed in every seat of every school bus that we own. Also, we equip all drivers with a Nextel so that we can maintain constant two-way communication. A rigorous preventative maintenance program allows for the reliable operation of our fleet.
